Biography

Nautical Nation, brainchild of frontman James Keith "Jake" Asbury, is an Alternative band from deep in the heart of the Texas hill country. James grew up  singing and performing at his family's music venue, The Lazy Days Canteen. His first years of playing music were in his father's band "The River Rats"  fueling his fire and love for music early on. Over the next decade James sharpened his skills and had the privilege of performing with seasoned entertainers.  Over his 10 year career as an original artist he has shared the stage and worked with many renowned artists as well as Grammy Award winners.

"JAMES KEITH IS AN ARTIST WHO LETS THE POWER OF THE SONG LEAD THE WAY REGARDLESS OF GENRE OR CLIMATE. IT'S ALL ABOUT REAL PERFORMANCES AND CLASSIC MUSICIANSHIP. NO SMOKE AND MIRRORS…

…desire to share their sound with the world ...a sound that can’t be stuffed into a box. They embrace their softer acoustic surfer side, with the old school punch of Van Halen rock & roll and everything in between.”

In 2017 James Keith finished up work on his debut (solo) album , "Dreamboat". The entirely self written album was recorded at Hidden Creek, Alnico, and Orb Studios in Austin, Texas.  James Keith's music is described as eclectic . His voice has a particular rawness and charming freshness that lures you in. Later in the year James added his bandmates, The Moondogs (later Nautical Nation) and debuted at Austin's famed, Paramount Theatre (SXSW 2017) . They then played at San Antonio's San Jose MissionFest for the  Fiesta closing concert. The band performed a mini tour of  The UK & France and returned to headline San Marcos TX - Summer In The Park, as well as support dates for Grammy Award winning artists' Los Lobos, Los TexManiacs, & Rick Trevino including the City of Del Rio’s July 4th Extravaganza with David Hidalgo. In early September 2018 Nautical Nation signed on with Developer Matt Noveskey of Blue October and released their debut EP, Golden Seas, following a month long tour in Europe. Later that year Nautical Nation signed with Rock Revival Records to help revamp modern rock music with a classic feel. In 2019 they embarked on a 3 month west coast tour playing multiple (Granada + Cailloux) Theater and Casino (Isleta + Del Sol) dates with Brock Bushong and Josh Murley from the voice. In 2021 Nautical Nation supported Bob Marley’s legendary band, The Wailers for the Grand Opening of the Starry Nights Amphitheater. After the pandemic in 2022 they had multiple statewide runs with Saliva, The Expendables, and one concert as direct support for Marcy Playground. Early 2023 recording for Nautical Nation’s sophomore album, “Taming the Ocean”, began at Blue October’s Orb Recording studios. Later in the year there are plans of 2 stateside runs and a 3-week overseas tour in Europe.

Leigh Kettle - Shuffle Online Show Review

“ From deep in the heart of Hill Country, Nautical Nation surpasses all definitions of genres. Though alternative at the core, this eclectic band incorporates elements of all styles of music, from rock to reggae, funk to pop, indie to Americana. Full of raw and vast talent, the band delivered a memorable set full of jams of all varieties. In fact, the array was so wonderfully transformable that we sometimes wondered how one man could possibly craft such versatile, yet cohesive tunes. “
